Ex-Senate President, David Mark, Joins the Presidential Race

What’s the story?

Senator David Mark picked up a presidential form under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday. He joins the presidential race – which was already looking saturated – after picking up the form at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, where he made his declaration speech to journalists in attendance.

In his remarks, he promised to open a dialogue on restructuring, and tackle economic and security challenges in the country.

“Irrespective of our political persuasions, it is incontrovertible that restructuring of the nation is an idea whose time has come.

“I believe it will further strengthen our bond of brotherhood and unity more than ever before because everyone would have a sense of belonging and live in harmony in any part of Nigeria without any fear of molestation and intimidation.” He said.

David Mark served as Senate President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2015 and was recently under EFCC radar for cases of corruption.

The PDP now has to decide who becomes their flag bearer in 2019 from a list of candidates that include Rabiu Kwankwaso, Atiku Abubakar, Sen. Bukola Saraki, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, and more. PDP leadership had earlier stated that the people will help them to decide, but how this will be done is still unknown.
